A BIT ABOUT ME
I am a qualified, registered and very experienced Canberra Marriage Celebrant, bringing rich life experience and much enthusiasm to my role as a full time professional celebrant. I service Canberra and surrounding areas. I am happy to travel further. Just discuss your needs with me.
I have trained celebrants for almost a decade. Because we deal with legal matters, all Marriage Celebrants are obliged to undertake five hours of professional development each year.
My background is in Education. Before I became a Canberra Marriage Celebrant, I was a teacher and Deputy Principal, a profession I loved. I am a published writer and have had wide experience in public speaking, to all sorts of audiences and in a variety of media. I have spoken to professional groups, parents groups, at conferences and to literary gatherings.
I support Marriage Equality. A highlight of my career as a Canberra Marriage Celebrant, was conducting 11 of the 31 same sex marriages that took place in the ACT in December 2013. The Marriage Equality (Same Sex) Act was over turned by the High Court, but there was a five day period when same sex marriages could legally take place in the ACT. It was a very special time and I felt privileged to have had a small role to play in the history of human rights in this country.
December 9th 2017 will be a day remembered by all the LGBTIQ community. I rejoice that all couples, committed to a future together, will now be able to share in the joy of being married in Australia.
After almost 2,000 weddings nothing really fazes me.
Forgotten rings … we managed beautifully, the groom borrowed his dad’s and the bride borrowed her mum’s, a special moment for them all.
Dogs in attendance… of course, they are part of the family, just remember to take them early, so they can have a good sniff around and do what dogs do well before the ceremony.
Small children in the wedding party… always gorgeous, if they get it right they are clever and if they get it wrong and do their own thing, they are cute.
Crying babies… we pause while they have a cuddle.
Crying brides… we just have a tissue break.
Crying grooms… even better and every woman present falls a little bit in love with them.
